Former American Idol contestant and Grammy-nominated Broadway performer Frenchie Davis links up with Broadway writer/producer Wilkie Ferguson, Epic artist/Broadway star Morgan James and poet Daniel J. Watts for the powerful song “Tired,” a declaration of unrest during these trying times spurred by the recent grand jury decisions in the non-indictments in Ferguson, Mo. and Staten Island for police killings of two unarmed black men Michael Brown and Eric Garner.
The clip is full of footage and images of past and present unrest while they sing thought-provoking lyrics of protest. “You show me that my life doesn’t matter / That all my fighting is in vain / You prove that I should never defend you / ‘Cause you would never do the same.” And to drive the point home, names and photos of black men and boys slain at the hands of law enforcement flash across the screen during Watts’ poignant, truthful spoken word piece.
“I wrote this song to try to capture some of the frustration and anger that my peers and I feel in the midst of the injustices being suffered by people of color,” Ferguson said in a released statement. “I believe that art has a way of reaching and influencing people in a way that nothing else can.” Davis added, “It is our responsibility as artists to use art along with whatever platform we are given to create a space for thought-provoking dialogue on issues such as these in the hopes of facilitating change.”
